Travis Pastrana – American - Motorsport
An all-round action sports legend, Travis Pastrana is many things: a multiple X Games gold medallist in a number of different disciplines; the first man to perform a double back flip in a motocross competition; a three time Rally America champion credited with reigniting a dwindling North American fanbase; the star of popular MTV series Nitro Circus; and the world record holder for the longest distance jumped in a rally car, a feat which was televised live on ESPN on New Year’s Eve in 2009.
Alongside his many accomplishments in professional sport, swigging from a can of Red Bull before launching parachute-less out of a plane – can still in hand – is just one of the death-defying stunts that has made Pastrana both a certified YouTube sensation and a hit with sponsors eager to tap into the burgeoning action sports market. Having shone in every sport he has tried his hand at, the 27-year-old’s long-awaited debut in Nascar’s Nationwide Series at Indianapolis this summer looks set not only to attract a raft of loyal and youthful fans to the sport, but also to expose his adrenaline-fuelled antics to yet more millions.
