In rugby, brands tend to build their marketing efforts around teams and tradition more than individual players, but Carter’s is a different case. Much like Englishman Jonny Wilkinson in 2003, the clean-cut 30-year-old is capable of moulding the tournament in his own image, dominating with brain and boot while reclaiming his world points record in the process. Long central to Adidas rugby promotions, the Crusaders star recently featured in the German giant’s global ‘All In’ campaign, joining the likes of Lionel Messi and singer Katy Perry. He has also appeared on billboards worldwide as a model for Jockey underwear, but will turn more commercial heads if he gets his hands on the William Webb Ellis Cup.
