As the only genuine female star in a sport dominated by men, Patrick has long had considerable marketing cache. But with every year that passes with Patrick not quite materialising as the international sensation her sponsors desperately hope her to become, the likelihood of her making the step up to Nascar Sprint Cup racing diminishes. 2010 was a steady, if unspectacular, year of progress for the Andretti Autosport and JR Motorsports driver. She achieved two second-places in the Indycar series, the first time since 2007 she had registered multiple podium finishes in a season, and finished 43rd in the overall standings having competed in a part-time programme of 13 Nascar Nationwide events.
